Disappearing items?

I am struggling. I chose Pantrist because it seemed to have more features than other apps but I’m now finding some aspects quite frustrating. It would be helpful to have a walk-through of how to use the app as a new user. Some questions:

  • I cannot see how to edit locations eg delete a location once I’ve created it. Can I do this?
  • Can I delete categories? There are a large number of categories and I would like to simplify them.
  • Main issue is what might be the bugginess, or might just be me understanding what is best practice for entering and managing items. I’m finding that products I scan in sometimes disappear shortly afterwards. It’s not clear to me at what level (locations, categories, pantry, catalog list etc. items should be created. Sometimes the barcode scanner works on a product, sometimes it doesn’t. If I increase the quantity of one item, this sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. Or a increase the quantity to 2 say, then later find it’s shoowing as 3 or 4. Again, this may be user error but it’s not clear to me why this erratic behaviour might be happening.

As I said it would be useful to have a use case making it clear how to add and maintain items. Until then I may have to revisit my quest for the perfect pantry inventory app – though this may not exist as I’ve tried several.

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed feedback and I am sorry for the frustration!

Let me answer your questions:

  • Locations: You can delete and manage locations via the three dots in the top right corner > “Manage pantries”
  • Categories: Same place > “Manage categories”. You can delete or hide the ones you do not need.

Regarding items disappearing: There were some stability issues in the past but these have been resolved for some time now. If it is still happening, please let me know!

On the barcode scanner: Could you clarify what you mean by “sometimes doesn’t work”?

  • Does the scanner open but the product is not found in the database?
  • Or does the scanner not open at all / freeze?

This will help me understand whether it is a data issue or a technical one.

Best regards,
Nico
